Chilean embassy offers masters scholarships to qualified Jamaicans

Demonstrating its commitment to the development of young people in Jamaica, the Chilean government is offering a wide range of master’s scholarships to those who are advanced in the Spanish language.

Consul at the Chilean embassy in Kingston, Maximiliano Jara, is encouraging interested persons to apply early, by visiting it’s embassy which is located on the fifth floor of the Courtleigh Corporate Centre, 6 St Lucia Avenue in New Kingston or by email.

The deadline for applications is October 30, ahead of the beginning of the degree programmes next March, and therefore, Jara is asking interested, qualified persons to make use of the opportunity.

“We have more than 40 different careers for masters. You can choose from different areas, like engineering, humanities, law, international relations (and) government as well. It’s a wide range of opportunities, (at) more than 10 universities. It could be in Santiago, it could be in the provinces as well.

“Our idea (is) to support the young people in Jamaica, young professionals, offering scholarships which are marvellous and a chance to study in Chile in the top universities in Latin America, fully covered for two years. It’s a huge opportunity and we don’t want it to waste. The problem is when you have an opportunity but you are not aware of (it). It’s a very worthy opportunity that no one should miss,” Jara told The Gleaner.

Jara said that Jamaica has between five and 10 spots that need to be filled.

One main requirement is that prospective applicants must have an advanced fluency in Spanish, as all the classes are conducted in Spanish.
