Apply for the Glencore scholarship fund that is offered by the Mines and Geology Division of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining. Glencore in co-ordination with the Bauxite and Alumina Trading Company of Jamaica Limited (BATCO) invites applicants for the Glencore Scholarships, from residents of parishes where bauxite is mined (Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Ann and St. Elizabeth) to pursue undergraduate degree courses at UCJ accredited universities in Jamaica.
Eligibility for the Glencore Scholarship Fund
Glencore Scholarship Applicants should:
- be below the age of thirty (30) years of age on October 1 of the year of application;
- have resided for at least five years in one of the bauxite parishes of St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Ann and St. Elizabeth;
- be accepted for full-time study in the field of science and technology or sport; or
- be already in a programme of undergraduate study in any of the above mentioned fields of study at a university and having a minimum B average.
Value of the Glencore Scholarship
Three (3) scholarships are being offered for a three (3) year period each with a value of up to J$325,000/year. Each scholarship winner, if maintain a high GPA will continue to receive the award for the duration of the course of study.
Deadline and Background
A completed application form along with supporting documents must be returned no later than July 15, Only shortlisted candidates will receive notification.
Launched in 2010, the Glencore Scholarship promotes science and technology and sports among students from bauxite producing parishes. Beginning in the new academic year, three students from the island’s bauxite parishes who wish to study in the field of science, technology or sport, at the undergraduate level, will benefit from scholarships tenable at any local university, annually. This is being made possible through a scholarship Foundation, which has been launched by global mining company, Glencore International, in partnership with the Bauxite Alumina Trading Company (BATCO), of Jamaica.
