Apply for the US Embassy Scholarship now! The United States (US) Embassy in Kingston has indicated that it is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 Fulbright Graduate Student Program, Fulbright Faculty Development Program and the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Programs.

In a release, the embassy noted that US Embassy Scholarships including the Fulbright Graduate Student Program fellowships are awarded to qualified graduates with a first-class or upper second-class honours bachelor’s degree who wish to continue their studies, for either a master’s or PhD degree in the humanities, social sciences, or other specified disciplines, in the US.

“This very competitive US embassy scholarship programme will only consider Jamaican-citizen graduates of tertiary institutions,” the embassy said.

The 10-month 2015 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is intended to bring accomplished mid-level professionals to the US for a year of combined academic (non-degree of) and professional work, resulting in a certificate from the US government. For the specific fields of eligibility through the US embassy scholarship, potential candidates can visit the US Embassy, Kingston’s website.

To prove eligible for a Humphrey Fellowship, applicants must also possess a first degree from a recognized university, five years of full-time professional experience, demonstrated leadership qualities, and a record of public service. 

The embassy said the ideal Humphrey Fellow must demonstrate English language ability and limited prior experience in the US. Also, prospective fellows should be no older than 45 years old at the beginning of the programme on August 1, 2015.

The Humphrey Fellowship provides funding for international travel, tuition and university fees, accident/sickness coverage, books, professional activities, and monthly maintenance allowances. The programme, however, does not provide financial support for accompanying dependents.

The application deadline for the US embassy scholarship is June 27 next year. Local selections will be made, followed by final selections in the United States by independent review committees and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Awards will be announced by Spring 2015.

Full-time lecturers at Jamaica’s tertiary level institutions can apply for US embassy scholarships under the 2015-2017 Fulbright Faculty Development Program, which is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the US Department of State, for full-time study in pursuit of master’s or doctoral degrees at US universities, beginning in August 2015.
