Applications are now being accepted for master’s and doctoral scholarships at Central European University (CEU) through the annual Open Society Foundation graduate Scholarship programmes.

Central European University Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The Central European University provides a variety of scholarships and research grants for which applicants from any country are eligible to apply. Academic areas and programs include the following:

Central European University Open Society Guidelines

The Central European University Open Society Prize is awarded annually to an outstanding individual or organization whose achievements have contributed substantially to the creation of an open society. The prize was first awarded in 1994, to philosopher Sir Karl Popper, whose book The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945) presented a philosophy of tolerance, openness and democratic values.

In 2017–2018, 82 percent of CEU students received financial aid, ranging from tuition awards to scholarships with stipends and housing. For more information about available financial aid, funding options, and research grants, visit the CEU website.

Applications are due January 31, 2019, to join CEU in 2019/2020 to study with a scholarship. 


Candidates from any country can apply for CEU financial aid.

Are you a master’s candidate?
Granted on the basis of both academic merit and financial need, CEU scholarships and tuition awards are available for most of our programs. Please make sure to check your future program‘s website before you start your application.
Remember to apply by the financial aid application deadline and fill out the Funding section of the Online Application Form so we can consider you for financial aid.
Please make a responsible assessment of your financial situation before applying and also look for alternative sources of support, such as foundation grants, employer support or state scholarships.
