Scholarship applicants are invited to apply for the GraceKennedy UTECH Scholarship provided by the GraceKennedy Foundation. The scholarship for students of the University of Technology, Jamaica is offered ONLY to FIRST YEAR students who have fulfilled the acceptance requirements.

The GraceKennedy UTECH scholarship will be open to all undergraduate applicants who have met the entry requirements of the University of Technology, Jamaica and the Faculty to which they request admission and who qualify under the terms and conditions stated below.

The following fields of study/faculties WILL NOT be considered for this GraceKennedy scholarship. They are the faculties of Law, Nursing, Dentistry.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE GRACEKENNEDY UTECH SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must be a Jamaican citizen. On the first day of May in the year of the application, the candidate shall not be over the age of twenty-three (23) years old. He or she must have completed the application for admission as a full-time student to the University of Technology, Jamaica and, at the time of interview, have been accepted for entry.

The applicant must have a 3.0 GPA average or above. He or she must be a person of good character, displaying leadership qualities and consistent involvement in social/community activities.

The applicant must have completed and submitted The GraceKennedy UTECH Scholarship application form by July 15. He or she is required to give a good and sufficient evidence that the requirements specified in 3.1 to 3.6 above have been satisfied.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Supporting documents of the Jamaica Scholarship application must be submitted with the application form. these application supporting documents are as follows:

  1. A reference from a Senior Teacher/Principal at the applicant’s High School or one of the applicant’s Lecturers from the Faculty (if currently enrolled in the institution)
  2. Academic Record –Certified copies of CSEC, CAPE, and UTECH grades. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit all outstanding academic grades (CAPE/ Semester grades) received after July 15. These grades are to be emailed to gkfoundation@gkco.com
  3. Copy of birth certificate
  4. Statement about career goals, leadership abilities, social and community involvement (not to exceed 250 words)
  5. Acceptance letter from the University (if the applicant is a new student of the institution).

REGULATIONS FOR THE GRACEKENNDEY UTECH SCHOLARSHIP

Any candidate to whom this Scholarship is awarded shall not simultaneously hold Any other substantial award; or Any award which would interfere with the regulations governing this GraceKennedy UTECH Scholarship.

The GraceKennedy UTECH scholarship is for tuition ONLY valued at a maximum of
J$450,000 per annum for a maximum period of four (4) consecutive years. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide proof of how the balance of the tuition will be paid if the value of the Scholarship does not cover tuition in full

J$450,000 PER ANNUM FOR FOUR (4) CONSECUTIVE YEARS

GRACEKENNEDY FOUNDATION

The GraceKennedy award is subject to an annual review of the holder’s academic performance, conduct and participation in social/community activities. The UTECH Scholarship is valid for the academic year immediately following the offer of the award and cannot be deferred for any reason

With respect to The GraceKennedy UTECH Scholarship, the following shall apply. The holder of the UTECH Scholarship is required to pursue the course of study for which the award is granted. An alteration of that course of study may not be made without the Donor’s prior approval and failure to comply with this may lead to the withdrawal of the Scholarship.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE

The holder of the Scholarship is required to complete sixty (60) volunteer hours until final year. In final year, it will be reduced to thirty (30) volunteer hours. In the final year, 50% of the scholarship will be paid in Semester 1. The holder of the Scholarship is required to complete 30 volunteer hours by January 15 and adhere to the rules and requirements for the volunteer programme in order to receive the balance of the scholarship funds for Semester 2.

The scholarship holder is required to adhere to the rules and requirements for the volunteer programme in order to have the scholarship renewed annually. He or she is required to act as a campus representative for the GraceKennedy Group for the duration of the GraceKennedy UTECH Scholarship.

The holder grants the Donor permission to use and publish any recorded material, and photographs at events and testimonials of the holder to be used for marketing, social media and print, TV and other media purposes.

The installments in which the Scholarship will be paid, shall be determined by the Donor at the time of the award. The Donor may make changes to the value and the installments as a result of any approved alterations in the course of study by the holder.

The Donor shall appoint a selection panel comprising the following: one representative from the University of Technology, and two representatives from the GraceKennedy Foundation, one of whom shall be the Chairman of the panel,
