Development Bank of Jamaica Limited Scholarship

The Development Bank Scholarship is an annual scholarship award for qualified students in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus from the Development Bank of Jamaica Limited.  The Development Bank of Jamaica Limited is a wholly owned Government institution and its only shareholder is the Accountant-General.

The Bank is a result of the merger of two national development entities, the Agricultural Credit Bank Limited and the National Development Bank, on April 1, 2000. The National Investment Bank of Jamaica Limited was further amalgamated into the DBJ in 2006.

Value: J$250,000 per annum

Maximum Tenure: Two (2) years


Eligibility

The Development Bank of Jamaica Scholarship award is available to students who are registered in Level II of the programme and are:

  • pursuing studies in the Faculty of Social Sciences majoring in Economics; OR
  • pursuing studies in the Faculty of Science and Technology (Agriculture-based) .

Criteria

The DBJ Scholarship award will be based on:

  • high academic achievement (a GPA of at least 3.3);
  • the applicant being active members of their community;
  • verifiable financial need.

Method of Selection

Short-listed candidates of the DBJ Scholarship award will be interviewed by a panel comprising representatives from The UWI and donor personnel.

DBJ Condition

The recipient is expected to live and work in Jamaica for a minimum period of three (3) years immediately after completing their studies.

Please Note

Graduates of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE),who are qualified for direct entry to the UWI, may also apply for the Development Bank of Jamaica Scholarship award. Such applicants must submit, along with their application forms, a transcript from CASE addressed to the Manager, Office of Student Financing.
