YALLAHS, St. Thomas – Thank you for your interest in applying for the 2024 Joyce Ford-Newell Scholarships (JFNS) for St. Thomas Students. Are you a Seaforth High School student or past student or a student living in St. Thomas? The following is your ultimate guide to successfully apply and win this year’s awards.
This year, we are offering a minimum of five (5) scholarship awards to the most qualified and needy students residing in St. Thomas. First preference will be allotted to students enrolled at or past students of Seaforth High School.
Please complete the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM and upload ALL required documents including your last transcript, reference letter, proof of financial need (where necessary), a resume and a recent passport size photo of yourself.
The Joyce Ford Newell Scholarships Deadline
All 2024 NMJ International scholarships are due no later than SATURDAY, AUGUST 17 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2024 AT 11:59PM.

About the Joyce Ford Newell Scholarships Donor
The Joyce Ford-Newell Scholarships programme is funded by Chris A. Grant through Next Move Jamaica International, Inc., a registered not-for-profit in New York State, USA. The Scholarship is named in honor of is grandmother – JOYCE FORD-NEWELL.
Mrs. Ford-Newell was a house-wife and farmer residing for over five decades in the small farming community of Georgia, St, Thomas. She was a Christian an avid supporter of education and giving back to her community.
Chris A. Grant is a past student of Seaforth High School (graduated 1998), the University of Technology, Jamaica, the founder and Chief Researcher at ScholarshipJamaica.com and co-founder and Director of Next Move International, Inc..
Chris is currently advocating for free tertiary education and feasible education financing solutions in Jamaica through his online platform – ScholarshipJamaica.com. He is a New York State license Radiologic Technologist in Xray and Computed Tomography (Cat Scan), and is studying to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Scholarship Eligibility
Jamaican Nationals enrolled in any local primary, high school, community college or university in the parish of St. Thomas – first preference is allotted to Seaforth High School Students. Applicants must UPLOAD a comprehensive essay of no more than 500 words along with a passport size photo.
Students will be selected for the Joyce Ford-Newell Scholarships based on several key components, including:
• Completed application forms.
• Comprehensive essay.
• One letter of recommendation from a teacher, principal, Minister of Religion, Justice of the Peace or another leader in your community.
• Transcript and a completed resume
Application Criteria for the Joyce Ford Newell Scholarships
The Joyce Ford Newell scholarship Awards will be based on academic performance in end of term exams and/or through verifiable financial need. A panel consisting of the donor will select short-listed candidates. Evidence showing recent volunteer service will be a plus.

The use of the scholarship money from the JFN Scholarships must ONLY be used to cover the cost of tuition and other educational/school expenses.
