The CCRIF Jamaica Scholarships
The annual CCRIF scholarship programme is open to Caribbean National students perusing studies at the undergrad and graduate level. This scholarship program offers full scholarships to qualified applicants with an annual due date of May 31.
The Scholarships – SPC (formerly the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility), is a risk pooling company, owned, operated and registered in the Caribbean. The CCRIF-SPC was formed to serve governments in the Wider Caribbean Region in reducing the economic impact of natural catastrophes. Through the Scholarship Programme of the Technical Assistance Programme, the facility provides scholarships to students at the post-graduate level to pursue study in areas related to disaster risk management.
Beginning in 2014, CCRIF is providing a maximum of four scholarships annually for citizens of CARICOM member countries and/or member countries. These are students who would like to pursue a Masters or an MBA programme in areas related to disaster risk management, which is available at universities in the United Kingdom, United States or Canada or at eligible regional universities (other than the University of the West Indies – UWI).
This Jamaica Scholarships Programme has replaced the Extra-Regional Scholarship Programme, launched in 2012. This program provided scholarships for study in the UK, Canada or the USA. Four scholarships were awarded between under the Extra-Regional Scholarship Programme between 2012 and 2013.
Prior to the official launch of the extra-regional scholarship programme, CCRIF, in 2011, provided a grant to Wazita Scott, an employee of the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH). This was aided her to attend Reading University in the UK to pursue a Master of Science degree in Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate. The scholarship was provided as part of the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding between CIMH and the current scholarship.
The CCRIF Jamaica Scholarships Component
The CCRIF Jamaica Scholarships/Professional Development Programme will help to create a cadre of professionals who are playing a key role in developing national and regional strategies that will lead to improved disaster risk management and increased climate change resilience.
This component includes the following financial aid opportunities:

- Cooperation with member countries
- Professional Development Assistance
As part of this programme, scholarships has awarded 24 scholarships between 2010 and 2014 either through its Extra-Regional Scholarship Programme, its University of the West Indies (UWI)-CCRIF scholarship programme or as part of its cooperation with member countries and regional organizations. Total disbursements to date are in excess of US$380,000.
CCRIF Postgraduate Scholarships
The CCRIF Jamaica scholarships will offer three scholarships per year to students entering any of the following four postgraduate programmes of study:
- Faculty of Science and Technology at Mona for a Masters degree in Natural Resource Management (Option – Disaster Management)
- Faculty of Science and Technology at Cave Hill for a Masters degree in Natural Resource and Environmental Management (Option – Climate Change)
- Faculty of Engineering at St. Augustine for a Masters degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering
- Faculty of Social Sciences at Cave Hill for a Masters degree in Building and Construction Management.
