What is the BOJ 60th Anniversary Educational Grant Programme?

In celebration of Bank of Jamaica’s 60th Anniversary and in recognition of the key role education plays in national development, BOJ has established its 60th Anniversary Educational Grant Programme to provide bursaries to disadvantaged youth to continue their education through the provision of financial assistance.

Beneficiaries will include students in primary schools, secondary schools and universities. The programme seeks to complement BOJ’s work to promote financial literacy and financial inclusion by addressing the challenges of funding education and online learning. Given the impact of COVID-19 which has exacerbated current challenges faced by individuals in accessing education; this is programme is both relevant and timely.

The deadline for submission is extended to Friday, July 16, 2021.

Eligibility Requirements – Primary Students

  1. Must be a Jamaican;
  2. Must be a full-time student at a primary educational institution in grades 4-6;
  3. Must be between the ages of 9-12 years old at the time on the grant;
  4. Must not, simultaneously, be a recipient of any similar awards, except for bursaries awarded by the educational institution;
  5. Must be in need of financial assistance; and
  6. Must have completed and submitted the scholarship application.

Eligibility Requirements – Secondary Students

  1. Must be a Jamaican;
  2. Must be a full-time student at a secondary educational institution in grades 10-11;
  3. Must be between the ages of 15-17 years old at the time on the grant;
  4. Must not, simultaneously, be a recipient of any similar awards, except for bursaries awarded by the educational institution;
  5. Must be in need of financial assistance; and
  6. Must have completed and submitted the scholarship application.

Eligibility Requirements – Tertiary Students

  1. Must be a Jamaican;
  2. Must be a successful graduate from a secondary school or first year student at the Northern Caribbean University, University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, University of Technology or University of the West Indies;
  3. Must have received a letter of acceptance into a programme at either the University of the West Indies or the University of Technology, Jamaica to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Accounts or Business Administration;
  4. Must be between the ages of 19-23 years old at the time on the grant;
  5. Must not, simultaneously, be a recipient of any similar awards, except for bursaries awarded by the educational institution;
  6. Must be in need of financial assistance; and
  7. Must have completed and submitted the scholarship application.

Selection Criteria

What every student MUST have:

  1. Minimum academic achievement of 2.5 GPA, B average or equivalent; and
  2. Unemployed.

Special consideration will be given to:

  1. Demonstrated leadership skills – (roles at school and/or the community)
  2. Involvement in extracurricular activities – (involvement in social, community and/or sporting programmes)
  3. Merits and Awards secured – (recipient of non-financial awards or merits)
  4. Financial needs of applicant.
