Courts Jamaica Scholarships Are Now Open

Furniture and appliance retailer Courts Jamaica recently announced the opening of the 2018 Courts Jamaica Scholarships application season for its annual customer scholarship programme branded ‘Dare to Dream’.

The programme offers financial assistance to students who excel academically, but on the bases of need and the relationship their parents and/or guardians have with the company.

Applications opened on June 11 and will close on July 6. The retailer offers three categories of Courts Jamaica Scholarships awards: tertiary, GSAT, and skills training.

In the tertiary category, Courts offers six grants valued at $250,000 each and four scholarships valued at $400,000 each (for the duration of the programme) for first degree students at any recognised institution in Jamaica. For GSAT, 28 awards valued at $100,000 each, will be awarded to students with a GSAT of 85 per cent or higher. In the skills t category, 10 awards valued at $50,000 each wall be awarded to individuals enrolled in any HEART Trust/NTA institution.

A 2017 recipient in the GSAT category, Sarah Williams, who is completing grade seven at Campion College spoke of the impact the Courts Jamaica Scholarships has had on her education to date.

“I am fortunate that my dreams to become a doctor are going to be achieved,” she said. “I’m very grateful that with the help of Courts I was able to offset the cost of my school fees and books.”

Young Williams added, “The Courts Jamaica Scholarships programme has been a big lesson for me: to provide help to friends and other persons in need when I can”.

The budding swimmer continues to excel academically and has already made her school’s honour roll. In a press realese Friday, Courts said it has invested millions in financial assistance to needy customers or their dependents over the past 30 years.

“The company prides itself on supporting youths and investing in their education and as a caring corporate citizen has taken its responsibility very seriously,” the Unicomer Group-owned company said.
