Excelsior Community College Scholarships through the Career, Placement and Scholarship Unit

Services of the Unit

The Excelsior Community College Career, Placement and Scholarship Unit offers the following services to new and enrolled students:

  • Job placement (summer, permanent, and part-time)
  • Career counseling Assistance with interviews and resume construction
  • Assistance with application for scholarships (internal and external)
  • Conduct workshops and  seminars on “Career and Employment”
  • Provide opportunities for interaction between industry personnel and students through seminars and workshops
  • Scholarship counseling services
  • Assistance with Internships Store resumes to facilitate placement

The Excelsior Community College Annual Scholarships

The Career Placement and Scholarships Unit of Excelsior Community College invites applications for the following Excelsior Community College annual scholarship opportunities:

  • The Excelsior Community College Academic Scholarship (100% of tuition)
  • The Excelsior Community College Departmental Scholarship (10% of tuition)
  • The Sanguinette Award
  • Excelsior Sports Scholarships

Criteria for application

Applicant must:

  • Be a registered 2nd, 3rd* or 4th year student for the academic year 2015-2016
  • Be in need of financial assistance
  • Have achieved at least a ‘B’ average (GPA of 3.0) in the previous academic year
  • Be recommended by the Department’s Head or Assistant
  • Be involved in school/ department activities

Other Excelsior College Scholarship Sources

The following are other scholarships that are available to The Excelsior Community College Student body and all other accredited Community Colleges in Jamaica.

The BGLC Education Grant is open to graduating high school seniors and students currently enrolled at accredited local tertiary institutions. The BGLC Scholarship is paid directly to the educational institution in the student’s name.

The Jamaica Flour Mills Scholarships (JFM) Programme for high school and undergraduate students. The Jamaica Flour Mills Foundation scholarships’ application deadline will be the end of June.

The Universal Service Fund is Empowering the Next Generation: Five (5) USF PATH Scholarships for five (5) students on the PATH programme who have matriculated to study ICT at an accredited local tertiary institution.

Carreras Community College Scholarship Programme: The 2020 Carreras Scholarships offered to students of Community Colleges is valued at one hundred thousand ($100,000) dollars each. We’re sure you thought you were left out, but you arn’t! These Community colleges include: The Excelsior Community College, Knox Community College, Portmore Comunity College, College of Agriculture, Science, and Education (CASE), Brown’s Town Community College, Montego Bay Community College (MBCC), Moneague Community College, Bethlehem-Moravian College. If your Community College is not on this list, don’t worry, contact the Carreras Limited for clarification.

The Carreras SEEK Scholarship is the premium scholarship category of the 2020 carreras Scholarship Awards as it offers a WHOPPING ONE MILLION DOLLARS ($1Million) to each awarded student. The SEEK Scholarships are offered to students pursuing studies in the Liberal Arts, Humanities and the Sciences.

West Kingston Power Partners (WKPP) Scholarship recognizes the need for academic advancement in order to foster economic development in Jamaica. The Company remains committed to assist in laying the building blocks for academic success in the Western Kingston Division, in which it operates. Two (2) recipients will benefit from a scholarship of J$250,000.00 each per school year, payable per semester, covering tuition, books and material.

Jamaica Energy Partners through their JEP Scholarship programme is committed to assist in laying the building blocks for academic success in the parish of St. Catherine, in which it operates. Two (2) recipients will benefit from a scholarship of J$250,000.00 each per school year, payable per semester, covering tuition, books and material.

The Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (J-TEC) Scholarship Database: The J-TEC is being established as the regulatory and supervisory body for the tertiary sector based on the Cabinet Decision of 1/11. By way of legislation, J-TEC will be a Commission, that is, a Statutory Body governed by a Board of Commissioners (Directors) appointed by the Honourable Minister of Education.

Other main sources of GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS that would be available to Excelsior Community College are the NCB Foundation, Digicel Foundation, Sagicor Foundation, First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union, Burger King Jamaica, JN Foundation, VMBS Foundation, and the Ministry of Education Scholarships.


Scholarship Deadline

The completed application forms along with two letters of recommendation and evidence of GPA should be returned no later than OCTOBER 14 to the office of Career Placement and Scholarships for all Excelsior Community College scholarship applications.
