The Fulbright Graduate Student Program (Foreign Student Program) – Applications are now open and ends Friday, June 2019.

This program seeks qualified graduates, with a first or upper second class honors Bachelor’s degree from a local institution, who wish to continue your studies in the United States for either a Master’s or a Ph.D. degree. The ideal candidate should show exceptional promise of making contribution on return to Jamaica. For additional information on the program please visit the Fulbright Foreign Student Program website.

Fulbright Graduate Program Eligibility

  • First-class honors or upper-second class honors Bachelor’s degree
  • Must be a Jamaican citizen currently residing in Jamaica
  • Must not be a “green card” (alien registration cards) holder or residing in the U.S.A.
  • Must not already be pursuing studies at a U.S. university or already be accepted to a U.S. university
  • Must be applying to one of the following fields of study:
  • Humanities
  • Natural Sciences
  • Mathematics/ Engineering, or
  • Social Sciences
  • Recipients should plan to return to Jamaica on completion of your studies in the U.S.A.

Final Coverage

  • J1 visa
  • Airline travel to and from the United States (NB: this is only covers for the initial flight at the beginning of the program and at the end of the program for the return flight to Jamaica)
  • Tuition assistance in the form of a scholarship or assistantship is provided by the host university
  • A monthly stipend
  • A monthly book allowance
  • Health insurance (basic coverage)

Fulbright Graduate Program Application Process

To access the online application, applicants must use the following link https://iie.embark.com/apply/ffsp.  You should create an account and select the 2019-2020 cycle. If you do not select the correct cycle, the Public Affairs Section will not be able to retrieve your application.

Please note: You must always return to the original link https://iie.embark.com/apply/ffsp to continue work on your application. Do not use any other embark login page that you may see or be re-directed to when working on your application. If you do not return to the original link, you will receive an error message, or will be unable to access your application.

All completed applications must be electronically submitted. You must also submit three letters of recommendation, electronically or hardcopy. Please note that electronic letter submission is convenient, and this process allows only program administrators to view such letters. The recommendation letter should be confidential and if submitted as a hardcopy, contact the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, Kingston for instructions, questions or concerns. Transcripts must also be officially requested from your previous university and addressed to:

In addition to your application, you are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), dependent on the field of study.  You must submit your GRE or GMAT scores along with your application to be considered for an interview. This requirement must be met even if the prospective university does not need these scores for matriculation.
