NYU Tuition Free Medical School for all MD Students

NYU Grossman School of Medicine awards full-tuition medical school scholarships to all current and future matriculated MD students, regardless of merit or financial need, provided each student maintains satisfactory academic progress in accordance with NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.

The NYU Grossman School believe offering students the ability to attend medical school without crushing levels of educational debt gives them the freedom to choose medicine over other careers as early as high school or undergraduate college studies and to follow their passions within the medical field.

Additional financial aid is available to help with other medical school costs. Select students who demonstrate extraordinary excellence may also receive full cost-of-attendance merit-based scholarships. The admissions committee automatically considers all accepted applicants for these scholarships—no separate applications are required.

Federal Scholarship Programs for Medical Students

In addition to NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s full-tuition scholarship and other merit-based scholarships, you may consider applying for a number of federal scholarship programs to help cover the cost of attendance.

National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program

Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to medical students who are pursuing primary care.

The scholarship includes funds for tuition, fees, and other educational costs and provides a monthly living stipend to students who commit to working at least two years in a federally designated, medically undeserved community in the United States after their residency training. The commitment is determined by the number of years of scholarship funding: one year per year of funding, with a maximum of four years.

Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship

The Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship. Opens in a new tab offers financial assistance to medical students who are members of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native tribe. Scholarship recipients commit to practicing medicine at an American Indian or Alaska Native health facility for at least two years after completing their academic and/or postgraduate training. The scholarship covers tuition, books and supplies, and travel expenses as well as a monthly stipend.

Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program

The U.S. military’s Health Professions Scholarship Program. Opens in a new tab offers two-, three-, and four-year scholarships through the army, navy, and air force to help current and prospective students pay for medical school in exchange for an active-duty service commitment.

Recipients complete 45 days of active-duty officer training for each year of scholarship received. During these training periods, recipients continue to study at their own medical schools and participate in research or clinical rotations at military hospitals. Program scholarships cover all medical education costs, including tuition, fees, books, and student health insurance. A monthly stipend is also provided.
