Occasion was the presentation ceremony of Scholarships for CMU students for the CSA Monica Silvera Awards on Monday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston. Eight final-year students of the CMU were presented with scholarships valued at $2.4 million to cover their tuition costs.

Caribbean Maritime University, formerly Caribbean Maritime Institute was established in 1980 as the Jamaica Maritime Training Institute (JMTI), the result of the collaborative effort of the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway (NORAD). The aim of the school at the time was to train Jamaican nationals to mann the Jamaica Merchant Marine (JMM) fleet of five ships.

Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF)

Through the CCRIF Scholarship Programme of the CCRIF Technical Assistance Programme, the facility provides scholarships to students at the post-graduate level to pursue study in areas related to disaster risk management. CCRIF provides a maximum of four scholarships annually for students pursuing a Masters or an MBA programme in a number of pre-identified areas (see eligibility criteria) which are available at universities in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada and at eligible universities in the Caribbean, other than the University of the West Indies (UWI). All Programmes, special consideration for final year students: Awarded to a student (applicant or returning) who is a Caribbean national from countries with membership to the Caribbean Shipping Association. The awardee will be of good character, displaying leadership qualities and consistent involvement in social/community activities. Read more

Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP)

To be a recipient of this programme you must be residing in one of the listed communities. Students must correspond with the Institution. CSJP will send a list of recipient name to the Accounts Department who will process and clear the student by the amount sponsored. Read more

Grace Kennedy Foundation CMU Scholarships

Programme: Institute for the Shipping/ Logistics and Supply Chain Management (all degrees*) degrees

This Caribbean Maritime Institute Bursary for final year students registered in the Institute for the Shipping/ Logistics and Supply Chain Management (all degrees*) degrees (Port Management, International Shipping/ Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Cruise Shipping and Marine Tourism). The applicant should be a Jamaican national with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 and above. Read more

Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission

J-TEC’s strategy to transform the tertiary education system incorporates measures to maintain relevance of the sector. As the gateway to world-class quality tertiary education, J-TEC aims to increase access to tertiary education. The Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Information administers several scholarship annually. The Jamaica Values and Attitudes (JAMVAT) Programme

JAMVAT recipients must completed application form and ensure that all relevant signatures and dates are affixed. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A list of JAMVAT recipients’ name is communicated to the Accounts Department. Once received recipients will be processed and cleared for the amount being sponsored.

PetroCaribe Scholarship

PetroCaribe Development Fund supports the Jamaica50/PetroCaribe Scholarship initiative, which is one of the Jamaica 50 legacy programmes. Tertiary level scholarships are awarded and beneficiaries are supported financially by the Fund for the duration of their studies. Sagicor Foundation Scholarship

Open to ALL Programmes: This scholarship is available to applicants that have been accepted or who are currently studying at the Caribbean Maritime Institute. Students applying must be accepted to pursue full time studies and have a GPA of 3.0 and above. Applicants must demonstrate the need for financial assistance. Only clients of Sagicor Group Jamaica and its subsidiaries are eligible. Students whose parents are clients will be considered. Team members of Sagicor Group Jamaica are not eligible to apply. Sagicor Team members may apply for the Sagicor Foundation internal scholarship Plan where advertised internally. Scholarships offered are applicable to tuition fees and paid directly to the recipient’s institution.
