The Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) Scholarship is available to Jamaican Nationals who have successfully completed all level I courses leading to the Bachelors degree with a major in Library & Information Studies.
Criteria
The Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) Scholarship is an annual scholarship opportunity and will be awarded through the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus Office of Student Financing. The shortlisted special needs applicants will be based on several factors including and not limited to students with:
- academic performance;
- verifiable financial need;
- an indication of commitment to profession by being a member of the Jamaica Library Association, among other things.
Method of Selection
Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising UWI and donor personnel. Additionally, applicants must be able to show evidence of involvement in co-curricular activities.
Successful candidates will be required, upon graduation, to become a active member of the Jamaica Library Association by volunteering to serve one of its working parties for at least a year.
The Office of Student Financing (OSF) exists to assist registered full-time undergraduate students of the Mona Campus. The Office administers a number of scholarships, bursaries and grants as well as other forms of financial assistance.
Many scholarships and bursaries are awarded on the basis of academic performance however, there are numerous awards that are reserved for students who are pursuing a particular field of study, demonstrate financial need, leadership qualities and are actively involved in co-curricular activities. The OSF also seeks to provide general financial assistance to students who demonstrate financial need especially as it relates to their daily maintenance cost.
